Fujitsu, Mitsubishi and Carea Announce the Development of a Vital Sensor

Measures and analyzes human pulse waves without contact and estimates emotions

Fujitsu Component Limited (Head office: Tokyo, Japan, President Masahiro Kinoshita) announced that together with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (Head office: Tokyo, Japan, President & CEO Kei Uruma) and Carea Corporation Co., Ltd. (Head office: Toyama, Japan, President Kazuo Yoshida) have developed the world’s first * vital sensor that measures a person's pulse waves with high precision without contact using the 24GHz Doppler method, estimates human emotions such as degrees of concentration, relaxation, sleepiness, and fatigue by using a unique algorithm, and visualizes them numerically.

24GHz Doppler Radar Vital Sensor

The newly developed vital sensor estimates human emotions such as degrees of concentration, relaxation, sleepiness, and fatigue from pulse waves measured using the 24GHz Doppler method, and outputs the estimation results. It can be visualized and confirmed on the application.
  • *
As of September 6, 2022. According to our research in the field of electronic sensors and technology that measures a person's pulse waves without contact, which analyzes the state of the central nervous system (brain activity) and autonomic nervous system, and estimates emotions.

Key Features

  1. Analyzing brain activity and autonomic nerves from pulse waves measured without contact, and estimating human emotions
    • The 24GHz Doppler sensor captures weak radio waves reflected from the human body and measures the pulse waves without contact.
    • The microcomputer inside the sensor analyzes the state of brain activity (central nervous system) and autonomic nervous system by analyzing the measured pulse waves’ shape and fluctuations in pulse intervals. In addition, our unique algorithm estimates human emotions such as degrees of concentration, relaxation, sleepiness, and fatigue in real time and visualizes them numerically.

  2. Achieving miniaturization and mass production by incorporating a measurement unit and a microcomputer with Emotion Estimation libraries in a single sensor
    • The measurement unit that acquires the pulse waves without contact and a microcomputer with libraries that analyzes the measured data are mounted on a single sensor board.
    • World’s first, as a 24GHz Doppler sensor with emotion estimation microcomputer (per our research of September 6, 2022; a 24GHz Doppler sensor with an emotion estimation microcomputer in one sensor) We have made it possible to process biological information from measurement to emotion analysis (edge processing) and visualization with a single sensor.
    • Non-contact measurement from a short distance (up to 6m), and High-precision measurement and analysis can be performed in 30 seconds to 5 minutes.
    • Using our proprietary technology, we have achieved a compact size of 44mm x 22mm that is easy to mount in home appliances, etc., and the sensor is already in mass production.
