White Paper: Mobile Printers

FCL Components mobile printers bring durability, security, and flexibility to modern-day public transportation

Equips public transport inspectors with the tools they need to issue tickets and fines easily, and throughout an entire day of work

The number of journeys on public transport is rising every year, and with that comes an increasing number of offenders, such as fare dodgers, putting pressure on transport providers.

Currently, transport inspectors don’t only have to catch fare dodgers by checking tickets, but they also need to deal with penalizing trouble-causing travelers who can become disruptive during travel. And that’s on all forms of public transport, from trams and subways to buses and trains.

In these situations, it’s essential that inspectors are able to do their jobs swiftly, easily, and safely, and so it’s of the utmost importance that the equipment they use to penalize offenders is reliable.

Years of reliability

FCL Components first implemented its mobile printer technology into public transport solutions over 15 years ago and has continued to provide the innovation required for inspectors to successfully perform their jobs so for many years.

We’ve seen a lot of changes during this time. The first series of printers that FCL Components rolled out onto public transport was part of the initial solutions aiming to replace written fines with PDA-enabled printed tickets. This helped to eradicate the humongous amount of work involved in entering manual fines into the system while limiting the risk of erroneous entries.

Today, things are very different, especially when it comes to ticket control, payment options, and the devices used to issue fines and warnings. However, there are a number of aspects that still remain crucial for mobile printing technology in this domain, and that’s user-friendliness, durability, security, and flexibility.

FCL Components has re-imaged its mobile printer to meet those exact requirements.

Features fit for the job

With an outstanding battery life, our latest printer innovation means conductors are able to make use of the device throughout an entire day without worrying about it running out of power. The battery included in the FCL Components mobile printer is a 2130mAh 7,4Vdc Lithium Ion battery capable of printing 2500 tickets (10cm per ticket) on one battery charge.

Thanks to onboard mobile enforcement package software available at our integrators, the FCL Components printer can be applied to a variety of situations, including ticket control, verbalization of behavior, smart payment, and for check-in and check-outs.

It also boasts a dedicated carry pouch that’s been designed to comfortably transport the printer wherever the inspector goes while remaining operational. It incorporates all the features operators would ever need to do their jobs.

Perhaps most impressive of all, FCL Components has designed the printer to be rugged to ensure it remains operational during use in busy and crowded environments when it’s more likely that accidents will occur.

The printer has also proved it can handle all kinds of environmental conditions, working perfectly throughout. Even at very low temperatures, the battery has demonstrated that it has enough capacity to easily cover more than a full shift of work and never leave the operator without that much-needed power.

FCL Components works with various integration partners who offer various solutions such as web back office applications for handling reported incidents by back office employees.
