Relay Products in Development
Overview
As markets evolve, so do product needs. At FCL Components, we keep close tabs on trends and new developments in the markets we serve. Our relay markets include AI servers, data centers, electric and hybrid vehicles, energy storage, and industrial power.
We collect data, talk to customers and potential customers, work with industry experts, and conduct experiments and tests in our labs. That helps us understand and address all the nuances and specifics of market trends.
FCL Components engineers use all those insights to conceive, develop, and refine new products to ensure they dovetail closely with what our customers require.
Here’s a sneak peek at some of the relays currently in progress in our labs, as well as information how to request engineering samples.
FTR-L1 series
New Relay Series for AI Server Power Supply Units
It takes careful engineering to ensure the servers that process advanced AI algorithms and applications have proper power management to do the job. Getting it right is critical, because demand for power-hungry AI servers is skyrocketing.
To serve that market, FCL Components is developing a new line, the FTR-L1 series slim low height relays for automatic transfer switching.
To ensure reliability and prevent downtime, many AI servers rely on redundant, high-wattage PSUs—making relay performance more critical than ever. In AI servers, the Power Supply Unit (PSU) plays a pivotal role in delivering stable, high-capacity power to components such as high-performance GPUs. Within the PSU, the FTR-L1 relay series’ role is to switch another power supply circuit promptly.
Our new FTR-L1 Series relays, including the FTR-L1 and FTR-L1R models, are engineered specifically for PSUs in AI server environments, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) applications, Automatic transfer switches (ATS), and various power supplies.
Key Features of the FTR-L1 Series:
Compact, high-current designs:
- FTR-L1: 25A, 277VAC
- FTR-L1R: 40A, 277VAC
2-coil latching functionality:
- Maintains state without continuous power, reducing energy consumption.
1a+1b contact configuration
- Suitable for switching AC power supply units.
- Wide contact gap (4.5 mm) with 2,500VAC dielectric strength between open contacts.
The L1 Series is designed in accordance with IEC 62368-1:2023 safety standards and built to operate in extreme environments—at altitudes up to 5000 meters.
Made in Malaysia:
- The FTR-L1 series has been developed in our design center in Japan and will be manufactured in our Malaysian facility.

High-Voltage Relay for Renewable Energy Systems
Demand for power is soaring, whether it’s to run data centers, power manufacturing machinery, or make electronic vehicles run. At the same time, energy policies are shifting away from fossil fuels and toward cleaner energy sources.
Many companies have made commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adopt renewable forms of energy. Regulatory pressure, such as rules supporting the EU’s commitment under the Paris Agreement, are adding to the intense interest in new energy solutions.
As renewable generation expands rapidly, so does the demand for high-voltage AC relays—particularly for inverters handling the increasing output of solar panels and for energy storage systems that help stabilize power supplies.
Introducing the FTR-R1 Series Relays
FCL Components engineers are working hard to respond to these burgeoning needs.
The FTR-R1 series relays, currently in development, are designed for applications requiring the conversion of high DC current to AC current. They are especially well-suited for use in Power Conditioning Systems (PCS), which convert direct current (DC) generated by solar panels into alternating current (AC) for commercial and public use, as well as for feeding power into the grid.
Another key application area is electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging systems. In these systems, the FTR-R1 relay operates in the rectifier circuit and during the AC/DC conversion stage. It enables disconnection of power in case of faults or emergencies, ensuring the overall safety and reliability of the system.
Both relay models also support the utilization of solar energy during power outages, providing greater resilience and continuity in renewable power systems.
Key features of the FTR-R1 series relays include:
- Contact rating: 270 A/320 A, 1,000VAC
- 4.1mm contact gap (compliant with VDE0126) and high dielectric strength (5,000VAC between coil contacts, FTR-R1: 2,000VAC, FTR-R1A: 2,500VAC between open contacts)
- Low coil power consumption by holding voltage
Both models allow for bi-directional control, facilitating loading and unloading. They are smaller than similar, currently available relays on the market.
